ROLAND HIGH SCHOOL BAND
“The Pride of Roland”
RHS Ranger Marching Band
In the fall, the 65 member “Pride of Roland” Marching Band is a outdoor ensemble that meets starting in early August, running through the end of the competitive marching season in mid-late October and the end of football season in November. The Pride supports the football program at all home games, and most away games, and maintains a busy competitive schedule of its own. The Ranger Marching Band successfully competes in many area and regional marching competitions culminating with the OSSAA Regional Marching Contest. The band is a former Oklahoma Bandmasters Association Marching Championship Finalist.
Upon the conclusion of football season, the band turns into a concert ensemble, studying advanced musicianship and the art of musical expression through the performance of grade 2 – 4 concert band literature. Students are competitively active year around in activities such as the EDBDA All-District Honor Band, OSSBDA/OMEA All-State Band, and the OSSAA Solo/Ensemble contest. As an ensemble, the concert band competes in the OSSAA concert band competitions, both at the district and state level.
“CAMERATA”
RHS Indoor Percussion Ensemble
Often referred to as “Winter Drumline”, CAMERATA is a Indoor Competitive Percussion Ensemble (battery & front enemble) assembles a marching percussion show customized for a gym floor. The group rehearses and performs at local competitions durning the months of January-April. Auditions and additional fees are required for participation in the group. CAMERATA has competed the Oklahoma (WGPO) and Arkansas (AVAA) competition circuits and currently holds three circuit championships
HIGH SCHOOL JAZZ ENSEMBLE
The RHS Jazz Band is an entirely extra curricular ensemble that is included as part of the RHS Band programs. This ensemble meets afterschool school one day a week in the spring semester. The Jazz band perform at RHS Band concerts. Each year they program a wide variety of music from swing and blues to funk, rock and latin.
JUNIOR HIGH CONCERT BAND
The Roland Junior High Band is an intermediate level concert ensemble consisting of 7th and 8th grade band students. Junior High Band meet 7th period everyday and focuses on further developing musical fundamentals and the performance of grade 1-2 concert band literature. Students are also introduced to the values of music competition by participating in All-District honor band auditions in the fall and solo/ensemble competition in the spring. Training in this ensemble prepares students for future participation in the Roland High School Band.
